The day after an exciting win against Chico State, Stanford Women’s Rugby faced rivals the California Golden Bears in the Elite 8 round of the Division I College Playoffs. Stanford started the game strong with a three tries in the first twenty minutes of the game scored by fullback Jamaica Osorio, scrumhalf Caitlin Breen and center Bisi Ibrahim. Two of the three conversions were made by center Aly Gleason. Stanford’s momentum was disrupted by a try and successful conversion for Cal. Stanford responded with two more tries before the end of the first half scored by winger Smriti Sridhar and 8-man Amelia Villines and one successful conversion. At the half the score was 31-7 Stanford. The second half started off well for the Stanford Women with another try from Villines, but the Cal Women responded with two more tries. Lock Katie Lampert put the game back in Stanford’s hands with a try. Though Cal was able to finish off the game with a try in the 80th minute, Stanford was victorious with a final score of 41-22 and will be moving on to compete in Final Four in May.
